Recently, many network systems in over 150 countries, including the United States, have come under attack from a new piece of ransomware called WannaCry. Ransomware is a malware infection that holds your computer files hostage in an attempt to gain money. Even if you do pay the ransom, there’s no guarantee that you will get your files back. What mainly sets this one apart from other pieces of malware is that this one was built to exploit security holes in old/outdated versions of Windows. Microsoft has since released an update to patch the hole, unfortunately, it was too late for many of those networks, which included telephone services, hospitals, government facilities and other major companies.
